Education and Experience Required

-High school diploma

-Experience in facility maintenance, landscaping, or related field preferred

-Basic computer skills and familiarity with Word and Excel preferred

-Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs landscaping tasks and minor mechanical maintenance of Utility properties including, but not limited to, water wells, water towers, substations, and pole yards; and such tasks consisting of, but not limited to, painting, minor repairs, HVAC filter replacement, cleaning, mowing, trimming, proper waste disposal, and tree maintenance.
  • Performs inspections of Utility properties and reports necessary repairs and maintenance needed to maintain Utility properties in a clean and organized manner.
  • Operates and maintains groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, tractors, and hand tools.
  • Oversees seasonal workers or maintenance staff, as assigned.
  • Acknowledges that some adverse working conditions may exist including, but not limited to, exposure to hazardous chemicals, work in confined spaces, heights, heavy machinery, excessive noise, and all types of weather conditions.
  • Performs manual labor, including lifting and carrying heavy objects, bending, kneeling, climbing, and operating departmental equipment.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment in a safe manner and within the regulations of all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations adopted by the Utility.
  • Participates in training sessions regarding plant operations.
  • Possesses good communication skills.
  • Wears BPU approved apparel including uniforms.
  • Possesses basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Wage Range:  $25.23/hr. to $31.29/hr. – Based on experience and qualifications.  Any person employed in this position shall reside within the designated residency limits of the BPU.
