The McPherson Board of Public Utilities is currently accepting applications for the position of Customer Service Representative in our Customer Service Department.

Education and Experience Required

-High school diploma

-Five years of customer service experience preferred but not required

-Basic computer skills and familiarity with Word and Excel preferred

-Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

· Communicate with customers by phone, email, or in person to receive orders for installation, turn on, disconnect, or change of service.

· Effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and respond to questions with customers, clients, the public, and other employees of the Utility.

· Communicate with customers in a clear, concise, and efficient manner.

· Respond to customer questions or complaints in a timely manner regarding billing or service rendered, referring complaints or service problems to designated departments for investigation.

· Accurately document customer interactions, inquiries, and resolutions on customer accounts.

· Determine charges for services requested.

· Calculate, collect, and post customer deposits.

· Receive and post payments for utility service from customers accurately and in a timely manner.

· Ability to accurately handle money transactions, including balancing cash drawer daily.

· Possess ability to perform basic mathematical computations; read and record figures accurately; make calculations rapidly and accurately.

· Assist customers with making payment arrangements on accounts and provide information to a customer to obtain community or governmental assistance for bill payment.

· Educate and enroll customers in programs and plans including online payments, EFT, payment by phone, paperless billing, variable bill payment, etc.

· Be knowledgeable of current electric and water rates and other fees.

· Ability to learn billing software.

· Collect unpaid and/or closed accounts.

· Process incoming and outgoing mail daily.

· Ability to organize work tasks and handle multiple tasks with minimum supervision.

· Access and interpret customer records accurately; and maintain and update customer records, as necessary.

· Organize and maintain recordkeeping systems.

· Proficiency in use of office equipment, including mail processing equipment.

· Lock and unlock the office building daily.

· Be punctual and regular in attendance.

Wage Range: $21.27/hr. to $28.37/hr. – Based on experience and qualifications. Any person employed in this position shall reside within the designated residency limits of the BPU.
