The McPherson Board of Public Utilities delivers some of the lowest-cost and most reliable power and water in the State. However, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do as well as we do without our people. For this reason, we want to showcase those people who significantly impact our business and community with an “Employee Spotlight.”
On Thursday, the 29th, it was announced that the recipient of June’s Employee of the Month was Mindy Allen. Mindy is BPU’s Information System Supervisor and has been employed with the BPU for over 20 years!!!
Mindy grew up in McPherson and knew what a great reputation the McPherson BPU had as a service provider and employer. From an early age, she knew she wanted to be a part of that. Her first opportunity came as an intern while she was in high school. She resumed her internship role through college while home for summer break. Mindy said, “I loved the environment, so when they offered me a full-time position after graduation, I jumped at it.” Mindy worked her way up through the company from a CSR to A.P./ Information System Specialist and now to her current position as the I.S. supervisor. When asked about her favorite part about working for BPU, she stated, “It’s the employees! Most people at the BPU stay for a long time, and true friendships are created. When you enjoy the people you work with, it makes it much easier to come to work every day!!”.
When asked what she would say to anyone considering a job at the McPherson BPU, she said, “It’s a very stable employer and a great place to work! It’s more than just a job—BPU plays an important role in the community; when you can help make a difference AND enjoy the people you are working alongside, it’s a great position to be in”.
Her direct supervisor, Chad Hitt, said, “Mindy is the epitome of a BPU employee: hardworking, trustworthy, and loyal to the BPU and its employees. Being from McPherson, she has had the opportunity to grow within the BPU since high school. Throughout those years, Mindy has maintained a great attitude and earned the utmost respect amongst all BPU staff. This spotlight is well deserved.”
As the lead over the BPU software programming, Mindy works with all departments ensuring workflow processes and billing rates are set up appropriately within our software. She works in the billing department and is the lead communicator with our billing software vendor. Mindy is a terrific Information System team leader and a fundamental part of the BPU. She cares deeply about the BPU and every employee at the utility,” Stated. Josh Bedel, General Manager
Outside of work, Mindy and her husband stay busy following their three kids around to all their activities.
