If you’ve driven by our power plant located at 1486 17th avenue, you will notice there is quite a project underway! This plant is home to our largest turbine generator, capable of producing 80MW of power. This unit is receiving a little TLC this spring. The units at BPU have seen an increase in usage to support the generation needs of our regional market.
The focus of the overhaul is both preventative and reactive. Highlights of the overhaul include: compressor and turbine blade inspections and replacements, combustion component replacement, and a full rotor alignment. The majority of the work will be done in house with the BPU’s experienced and highly skilled maintenance crews, along with General Electric (GE) engineering support. This project will prolong the life of the unit and make the unit more reliable. The BPU expects the project to be wrapped up by the end of May 2019.
