On Monday 03/14/2016 BPU crews began rerouting their 115kv transmission line along I-135 at Mohawk Road, just North of McPherson in preparation for KDOT’s Mohawk Interchange Project set to start in April. KDOT’s project will give greater access to McPherson’s newest industrial parks and is projected to bring $94 million dollars of economic benefit to McPherson and the region.
BPU started preparing the site in September 2015 when they installed two concrete piers to replace and reroute the existing infrastructure to correspond with KDOT’s construction plans. Although the line has to be down while crews reroute it, customers should not experience any disruption in service since BPU has a fully redundant system giving them two ways to feed power to their service area. BPU anticipates this new line to be in service by Wednesday March 16th.
