McPherson, Ks- McPherson’s Board of Public Utilities announced today that it will be celebrating Public Power Week (#PublicPowerWeek) October 2-7, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned not for profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 48 million Americans.

Public Power Week celebrates the reliable, affordable electricity the McPherson BPU provides to McPherson. Public power puts the people of McPherson first, and Public Power Week gives us the chance to emphasize the advantages of locally grown, locally owned power to our citizens!

McPherson BPU invites community members to participate in our “Open House” Festivities on From 11-2 on October 6th

BPU is 70 employees strong and all share a commitment to keeping customer utilities reliable 24/7.  The BPU has a current peak demand of 149 Megawatts and in total, our 4 gas turbine generators have the capacity to generate more than 235 megawatts of electricity.  In addition to that, the McPherson BPU operates and coordinates its own distribution lines. Today, the McPherson BPU serves nearly 8,644 electrical customers—7,087 residential and 1,557 commercial/industrial as well as 5,822 water customers. Our primary focus has always been, and remains, the satisfaction of its customers and a commitment to the quality of life in the community it serves.
