BPU General Manager to Retire in September

At the BPU Board meeting on July 11, 2022, a letter from General Manager Tim Maier was presented announcing his plan to retire September 16, 2022. Mr. Maier started his career at the utility on June 4, 1984, after receiving a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Kansas State University. Tim stated, “I have been fortunate to spend my entire professional career at a great organization working with dedicated employees who take pride in what they do. I feel confident these characteristics will continue into the future given current staff and Board leadership.”

At the July 11 meeting, the Board also announced that Josh Bedel, current BPU Assistant General Manager, will be named General Manager upon Mr. Maier’s retirement. Josh has been with BPU since June 2018 and had previous utility experience while working for Indianapolis Power and Light (AES Indiana) since 2010. Josh stated, “I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead a utility that is committed to reliable, cost competitive services while staying community focused. Tim Maier exemplified this commitment through his great leadership, and I am honored to continue this role.” Josh received his Mechanical Engineering Degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Kansas and Indiana.

Dustin Ringer, BPU’s current Project Engineer, will be promoted to fill the Assistant General Manager’s position. Mr. Ringer has been with the utility since May 2019 and for the previous 11 years worked for Westar Energy (Evergy) at their Jeffrey Energy Center. He has and Electrical Engineering Degree from Kansas State University.
