The McPherson Board of Public Utilities is currently accepting applications for the  position of Lineman in our Electric Department.

Education and Experience Required

-Minimum of 2 years Apprentice experience

-High school diploma

-Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license

-Maintain a valid CDL

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

-Reside within the designated residency limit of the BPU.

-Proficient in the understanding of utility overhead and underground systems and possess skills to read and understand utility maps.

-Ability to work on live, high voltage lines 35,000 volts and below.

-Properly frames distribution poles on the ground and in the air.

-Dig, set, and align poles and anchors and complete installation of overhead and down-guy assemblies.

-Assists in diggings trenches for buried cable, installing underground cable, and backfilling trenches.

-Assists in stringing, splicing, and tying in primary and secondary conductor.

-Assists in installing and connecting transformers, oil circuit reclosers, regulators, capacitors, meter loops, and other electrical apparatus.

-Cuts and trims trees and/or brush and disposes of debris.

-Understands single phase and three phase metering and meter loops.

-Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of outside agencies, and the public.

-Perform manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects, bending, kneeling, climbing, and operate departmental equipment.

-Acknowledge some adverse working conditions that may exist including but not limited to exposure to hazardous chemicals, work in confined spaces, heights, heavy machinery, excessive noise, and all types of weather.

-Paid on-call rotating duty is required.

-Able to operate safely all functions of the digger derricks and bucket trucks.

-Performs other duties and assists other departments as deemed necessary or assigned.
