Electric: The McPherson Board of Public Utilities has been providing electric service to homes and residences in our community since 1969. We are proud to offer dependable and reliable electric service to McPherson and the surrounding rural area at some of the most competitive rates in the nation. Today, McPherson’s BPU services nearly 7,085 residential electric customers. The McPherson Board of Public Utilities primary focus has always been, and remains, the satisfaction of its customers and a commitment to the quality of life in the communities it serves. The McPherson BPU offers virtually unlimited capacity and unbeatable reliability through a fully redundant electric system. Through an interconnect agreement with Westar Energy, BPU’s customers have the benefit of stable, competitive rates.
Water: The McPherson BPU has been providing dependable, quality water service to the homes and residences in our community since 1969. Today, McPherson BPU serves nearly 5,206 residential water customers in a service area of approximately 225 square miles. The service area includes the city of McPherson and 4 rural water districts. McPherson BPU’s water system includes a water treatment facility, three water towers, 148 miles of water pipes, and 15 water supply wells to gather water from the Equus Beds underground aquifer. McPherson BPU has the capacity to pump more than 12,672,0000 gallons of water a day to its customers, and stores 4,500,000 gallons of water in their three water towers and clear well. In addition to this, the McPherson BPU supports 565 fire hydrants throughout the city of McPherson. The McPherson Board of Public Utilities understands the importance of conserving and protecting our natural resources. Every year the McPherson BPU puts on the Children’s Water Festival to educate area 4th graders on being good stewards of our natural resources.
