Newly released 2024 utility revenue-per-kilowatt-hour data confirm that the McPherson Board of Public Utilities (BPU) continues to provide highly competitive industrial electric rates that are below state and national averages.

In 2024, McPherson BPU’s industrial average was 5.2 cents per kilowatt-hour (¢/kWh)

Nationally, the American Public Power Association’s report shows industrial public power rates varying widely by state. Using those state values, the simple average industrial rate across reporting states is approximately 8.8¢/kWh, placing McPherson BPU roughly 41% below that benchmark.

“For manufacturers and electric-intensive operations, stable and affordable power is a foundational part of long-term planning,” said Kasi Morales, Executive Director of the McPherson Industrial Development Company. “McPherson’s industrial rate provides companies with strong operating cost certainty while reinforcing Kansas’ broader reputation for affordable energy.”

“As a community-owned utility, our responsibility is to our customers and our community,” said Josh Bedel, General Manager of McPherson BPU. “We are proud to contribute to Kansas’ competitive energy environment while maintaining reliability and investing in infrastructure that supports future growth.”
